Vin Diesel says Fast & Furious 8 ‘takes place in New York’
Despite Furious 7 having not even been released yet, Vin Diesel is already talking about the follow-up. Speaking on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Diesel revealed a couple of aspects of Fast & Furious 8 (expect the title to be some variation of that), firstly stating that Kurt Russell was only brought in for Furious 7 in order to set things up properly for the sequel. Here’s the quote from the show in full:
‘I’ll tell you something about Kurt Russell. You know, I always think of these films as multiple pictures in advance. I think of them as trilogies. So Kurt Russell came in for this movie, but we really hired him because of a story that follows this, that takes place in New York.’
Diesel stopped giving information about the eighth movie in the franchise after that, but imagining each set of three films as a trilogy is a unique way of looking at the kind of intense world-building that Diesel and company work so hard to fulfil each time. And with Walker sadly out of the picture, it’ll be interesting to see where it all goes from here – especially if they do take it to exciting new territory such as New York.
Furious 7 is released April 3rd. Read our review here.
