With the news that Michael Keaton is once again in talks to play a villain in next year’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, another juicy rumour has surfaced concerning the appearance of Kingpin – literally and figuratively one of Spider-Man’s biggest enemies – in the film, and as a result, the casting of Vincent D’Onofrio who plays him in Marvel’s Daredevil Netflix series.
Sadly, D’Onofrio has spoken up on Twitter, downplaying the rumour entirely. Here’s what he had to say:
Sorry folks but this is news to me.
It would be great but I don't think it will happen. V. https://t.co/GrVwbUYsqX— Vincent D'Onofrio (@vincentdonofrio) May 20, 2016
He then piped up with some optimism about making it happen, however….

If enough support from the fan community made themselves heard, surely Marvel Studios would at least consider getting Kingpin – who D’Onofrio plays so brilliantly in Daredevil – into the fray? After all, he lives in the same city as Spidey – but then again, the studio and director Jon Watts are probably learning from Spider-Man 3 and The Amazing Spider-Man 2‘s mistakes, and being wary about involving too many villains in one movie.
Spider-Man: Homecoming is slated for a July 17 release.
