Viola Davis will be the leader of Suicide Squad

The Suicide Squad cast just got even bigger. Viola Davis has just been cast as the supervillain group’s chief, Amanda Waller, an American government agent who leads the team in their notorious exploits. Davis has beat off stiff competition in the form of Oprah Winfrey and Octavia Spencer, who were both up for the role. DC’s decision to cast Davis introduces another actor with the touch of Oscar; Davis was nominated for an Academy Award for Doubt and, most recently, The Help. Jared Leto, who’ll be playing the Joker in the 2016 film, won Best Supporting Actor at this year’s ceremony. But this isn’t the first time the character has been shown on the big screen: 2012’s flop Green Lantern also featured Waller. But we’re certain that Davis will bring something entirely new and exciting to the role in Suicide Squad. After all, she’ll have to bring her best – she is joining a cast that features not only Leto, but Tom Hardy, Margot Robbie, and Will Smith, after all.
