Filming for War for the Planet of the Apes has begun. Matt Reeves – the director of the upcoming third Apes reboot film – posted an on-set photograph via Twitter, signalling production is underway:

The photo shows two figures (one on horseback) occupying a washed out, barren beach. Perhaps the war between humans and apes will take us to new, seaside locations; a stark difference to the disease-ridden woodlands and besieged fortresses in last year’s Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

War for the Planet of the Apes is filming in Vancouver and is scheduled to release in July 2017. Andy Serkis will be returning as the conflicted, yet heroic ape, Caesar, while reports say Woody Harrelson will play a mysterious villain named “Colonel”.
