Premiering on stage in 2003, Wicked erupted as one of the most beloved musicals of the past two decades.
In 2008, it was announced that a film adaptation of the Tony Award-winning show was in the works. After spending years in development hell, the Wicked movie has an official release date: December 20, 2019.
Winnie Holzman and Stephen Schwartz originally adapted Gregory Maguire’s book to the stage. Depicitng The Wizard of Oz from the perspectives of the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch, this film adaptation will be directed by Stephen Daldry (Billy Elliot) and produced by Marc Platt (Into the Woods).
Given the incredible hype already surrounding the project, can Wicked surpass expectations and defy gravity?
