Will 007 Need to Find a New Studio?

Sony Pictures Entertainment’s distribution deal with MGM and EON Productions over the James Bond franchise is expiring with the release of Spectre, which is already a big box office hit in the United Kingdom alone.

According to the Wall Street Journal and Deadline, the 007 distribution could go to Warner Bros., Universal, or Paramount if MGM and EON don’t make a new deal with Sony. Of course it wouldn’t be surprising if Disney also threw their mouse ear hat into the ring as they already own everything else.

Deadline says MGM and EON “will wait until Spectre plays around the world and accumulates an ungodly global gross that will only strengthen their leverage. And then, early next year, they will make the best deal. If that means bidding farewell to Sony, so be it.”

So it looks like we won’t hear much about Bond 25 until at least 2016. In any case, it’s unlikely Daniel Craig will be returning to play the iconic character.
