Musicals are back with a bang! After the sensational success so far of Damien Chazelle’s La La Land, which could well sweep the Golden Globes and Oscars in a month or two, it seems that the film musical has been given a huge adrenaline shot and we may not have to wait too long to get our next one.
Deadline is reporting that Will Ferrell (Daddy’s Home) and Kristen Wiig (Ghostbusters) are set to star in the upcoming film Everything Is Coming Up Profits: The Golden Age Of Industrial Musicals, based on the book of the same name. Marc Platt, one of the producers of La La Land, is attached to produce the film with Marc Shaiman and Scott Whittman (Hairspray The Musical) set to write the score for the film and Steven Levenson (Masters of Sex) to write the screenplay.
Everything is Coming Up Profits, written by Steve Young and Mike Murphy, is a book that “reveals how corporate America employed Broadway talent to take part in industrial shows from the 1950s to the 1980s to help motivate sales forces and educate employees on products.” Ferrell and Wiig have starred together in many comedies over the years, from A Deadly Adoption, Saturday Night Live to Anchorman 2, and their chemistry is fantastic. Add in a few musical numbers and some singing and you have us very excited by the prospect.
