Will Smith read comic books back-to-back for 7 months to prepare for Suicide Squad

Will Smith is set to play Deadshot in DC’s upcoming Suicide Squad. But Smith has revealed that he didn’t have a great knowledge of comic books and so spent a “six or seven month period” studying them which helped him land the role.

He told Coming Soon how his brother was always the bigger comic book fan:

“As a child, my brother was really into it. I was sort of banned from his comic books. It was sort of sacred land.”

However Smith then revealed how he recently did take some time out to catch up on his comic-book free childhood:

“I started getting into it. I started paying attention a bit more. It was a little bit of a benefit coming from the outside and getting exposed to it because I got to do a deep dive over a six or seven month period, taking them all in and reading them back to back.”

Smith then went onto say how excited he is at being apart of the film:

“I get to design it and be a part of creating the first round of Deadshot in the history of cinema… It’s a really great opportunity to work with a really great ensemble. It was perfectly cast. It’s an insane group of super actor villains,”
