Will Tom Hardy’s Venom join the MCU?

When it was announced that Tom Hardy would be playing Venom in a solo movie, two thoughts popped into our heads: “OMG, this is amazing!” and “Will Hardy’s Venom pop up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?” As much as we would all love to see Venom face off with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, it appears Venom won’t be crossing over with the MCU anytime soon.

AlloCiné (via Screen Geek) recently interviewed Kevin Feige, the head of Marvel Studios. The producer set the record straight, stating, “For now, there is no plan for Venom in the MCU. It’s a Sony Project.”

While Feige didn’t entirely rule out the possibility of seeing Venom meet the Avengers, it’s clear that Sony wants to jump-start a cinematic universe of their own. Of course if the Venom movie suffers from the same problems as the Amazing Spider-Man films, Marvel Studios may need to pick up the slack once again.

Venom hits theaters on October 5, 2018.
