Writers Announced for Spider-Man Reboot

With Jon Watts set to direct and Tom Holland playing the iconic web slinger, Sony and Marvel’s Spider-Man reboot has now found it’s writers: John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein. Daley is best known for playing Sam Weir from Freak and Geeks and has worked as Goldstein’s writing partner for the past several years. The two previously worked on the screenplays for Horrible Bosses, The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2. They also co-wrote and directed Vacation, which will be hitting theaters this Wednesday. The duo announced that they’d be penning the Spider-Man script in an NPR interview and also noted that the film would find the comedy in Peter Parker’s superpowers.

“He’s a sharp kid and witty and kind of deals with the fact that he’s an outcast and a geek through humor. It is sort of the safety net for geeks like us, so I think we can totally relate to where he’s coming from. As well as the superpowers, which we also have.”

In an age where many superhero pictures are overly dark and brooding, it’s good to know that Daley and Goldstein will inject some much needed humor into the Spidey reboot. Hopefully they don’t overdose on the comedy like Spider-Man 3 did, however. The last thing we need is another dancing, emo Peter. As long as they follow the examples set by Guardians of the Galaxy and Ant-Man, though, their script should hit just the right note.
