It was a big week for comic-book fans over the past weekend with a plethora of news coming from the annual San Diego Comic-Con in the form of trailers, posters, announcements and countless interviews. One piece of news that was announced was that a sequel to 2017’s biggest comic-book film so far, Wonder Woman, is on the way and we now have a release date.
Wonder Woman 2 will be released during the festive season in 2019 and will see the return of Gal Gadot as the title character. Director Patty Jenkins is also set to return for the follow-up but her involvement hasn’t yet been officially announced by the studio. DC Comics and DCEU “Godfather” Geoff Johns is reportedly working on the script at the moment.
One person who won’t be involved, at least not as much as he was in the first, is writer/producer Zack Snyder who its reported is taking a back seat from all the DCEU films going forward. Mashable reports that sources are reporting that Snyder and his wife Deborah, the producer on the Snyder films, “will no longer have anything like the level of creative influence that got the franchise to this point.”
Snyder’s last film on the franchise, Justice League, is currently under-going hefty reshoots under the watchful eye of Joss Whedon after the director had to depart the film, and Warner Bros and DC are rumoured to be spending $25million on the pickups that are causing some scheduling issues with some of the cast.
Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller, Ray Fisher star as the titular superhero team, with J.K. Simmons, Jesse Eisenberg, Ciaran Hinds, Jeremy Irons, Willem Dafoe, Amber Heard, Billy Crudup, Robin Wright, Connie Nielsen, Diane Lane, Kiersey Clemmons and Amy Adams co-starring.
Justice League is released on November 15th; Wonder Woman 2 lands on December 13th, 2019.
